Affymetrix GeneChip® Tiling Array Services
With the completion of the genome sequences of many mammals, new types of genome-wide experiment are nowpossible. Affymetrix GeneChip® Tiling Arrays offer a physical readout of a genome and can be used as a discovery toolfor mapping sites of protein/DNA interaction by chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), discovering new RNA transcripts,or identifying global epigenomic changes such as methylation or acetylation.
In general, GeneChip® Tiling Arrays are designed using non-repetitive, RepeatMasked sequence content. Forexample, the Human Tiling Array process involves probes that are selected at defined intervals throughout the coding and non-coding sequences and tiled at approximately 35-base pair intervals as measured from the central position ofadjacent oligos, leaving approximately 10-base pair gaps between oligos.
Besides Whole-Genome Tiling Array Sets, the GeneChip® Human Promoter 1.0R Array and GeneChip® Mouse Promoter 1.0R Array are designed for ChIP experiments. Each promoter region on the GeneChip® Human Promoter 1.0R Array covers approximately 7.5 kb upstream through 2.45 kb downstream of 5´ transcription start sites. For over 1,300 cancer-associated genes, our coverage of promoter regions has been expanded to include additional genomic content; for such selected genes the total coverage spans from 10kb upstream through 2.45 kb downstream of transcriptional start sites.
